A manga-reading platform built around an automated content-ingestion pipeline rather than manual uploads.
What I built
- Built a scraping and ingestion pipeline that fetched, normalised and published chapters automatically.
- Built a CDN-backed image delivery layer tuned for how manga is actually read — long sequences of images loaded in order, where perceived speed is everything.
Outcome
Ran for a few months. It never broke through against entrenched incumbents in search, and was wound down.
What I took away
- Distribution and timing matter more than the build. Entering a mature category with better engineering and no distribution advantage is not a strategy.
- Automated ingestion is the right call when content volume is the product — but it moves the hard problems to normalisation and delivery.
